Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is catered to the specific needs of that individual. The main purpose of the counseling session is to assist the individual in gaining insight to be able to problem solve and resolve overwhelming issues. After the therapeutic relationship has ended the individual should have the tools necessary to problem solve and resolve issues on their own. Not necessarily does this mean they will never need a counselor again but they should not be dependent on the clinician indefinitely.
Group Counseling/Skills Training
Group counseling has more than one option. Skills training is one of the focuses for the group setting. This involves a six-week set of modules that build upon each other. Communication, problem solving, coping, goal setting, decision making and team building are inclusive of the six modules. Although these modules could be used individually they are much more effective in the group setting. Skills training can be done effectively with couples and parent-teen relationships.
The other option is a focused group. Anger management and self-esteem are examples of focused groups. It may be that there are several clients dealing with a similar issue that, instead of working individually, these issues can be resolved in a group setting.
Marital/Couples Counseling
There are two options in dealing with couples as well. In the traditional counseling sense, the couple would work together to enhance the relationship. The purpose would be to resolve issues by agreeing or compromising on how to solve the problems. These are also times where the couple, as a team, may have to agree to disagree. Working as a team and remaining a couple does not always mean both parties have to agree. They simply need to come to a compromise or an acceptable resolution where neither party feels as though they have lost in the situation.
If there is a time where the couple decides they want to dissolve the marriage, At the Table offers an option to the couple of participating in Collaborative Law. This, more amicable option for divorce, attempts to keep the couple out of litigation (court). It allows the couple to maintain control of what they really want. The attorneys and the couple meet together along with the neutral counselor and financial consultant to come to an agreement on the decree instead taking the power away from the couple. The marriage is dissolved while keeping the individuals intact.
LPC Supervision
Interns who have already taken and passed the required examination are welcomed for supervision. Currently available are individual and group supervision for LPC-I level clinicians. Supervision will be tailored to the individual and/or group.
